In 2025 Bhutan became one of the first countries to offer a national system that lets tourists pay for their travel with cryptocurrency.

How it works

Launched in partnership with Binance Pay and DK Bank, the system lets visitors pay in cryptocurrency for travel services — from flights and visa fees to hotels, tours and even small shops — while businesses receive payment in ngultrum.

Why Bhutan?

Bhutan has taken an unusual and forward-looking approach to digital assets, including investing in Bitcoin mining powered by its clean hydropower. Crypto payments are another way to make the kingdom easier to visit for a new generation of travellers.

Should you use it?

Cards and bank transfers remain the simplest way to pay for a tailor-made journey. If you'd like to pay in cryptocurrency, ask us and we'll confirm the current options and any fees.
