Beyond the Journey, into the Heart of Bhutan
Discover Happiness Tours & Travel is a Bhutanese travel company, born from one local guide's dream of sharing Bhutan with the world.
Since 2018
Tour and language guide turned founder. Welcoming travellers to Bhutan since 2018.
My Story
For as long as I can remember, I was expected to follow a familiar path.
I grew up in a family where public service was more than a profession — it was a tradition. My father was a government employee, and so were many in my family. Naturally, I was encouraged to follow their footsteps. After completing my studies in business, becoming a young and promising government employee seemed like the obvious direction for my life.
But somewhere inside me, I knew my story was meant to be different.
I have always been fascinated by people — their stories, their cultures, their languages, and the different ways they see the world. I wanted to meet people from different walks of life, listen to their stories, and learn from them. I was curious about foreign languages, and every new word I learned opened a small window into another culture.
That curiosity eventually led me to something I never expected: becoming a tour and language guide.
Guiding was never simply about showing someone a monastery, explaining the history of a dzong (fortress), or pointing towards a mountain. For me, it was about creating a connection. It was about watching a visitor arrive as a stranger and leave with a deeper understanding of Bhutan — and perhaps, with a little piece of Bhutan in their heart.
The more I guided, the more I realised that I didn't simply want to show people Bhutan.
I wanted to share it.
I dreamed of building a travel company that would be more than a business. A company where I could bring together my love for people, languages, travel, and my country. A place where I could organise journeys that feel personal rather than packaged; where guests don't simply visit Bhutan, but experience its people, traditions, landscapes, stories, and the quiet values that make this country unique.
And that dream became my reality.
Today, tourism is not just my profession. It is my passion, my livelihood, and my way of telling Bhutan's story to the world.
Every journey I organise carries a little piece of who I am. I want our guests to see beyond the famous landmarks — to sit with local families, hear stories from our communities, walk through our valleys, experience our traditions, taste our food, learn our language, and discover the Bhutan that cannot always be found in a brochure.
Because I believe the best journeys are not measured by how many places you visit, but by how deeply you connect with a place.
I also have a more personal reason for building this dream.
I am a father of two young daughters, and I want to build something meaningful that I can one day pass on to them — not simply a business, but an idea: that it is possible to choose your own path, to follow your passion, to respect where you come from, and to build a life around something you truly believe in.
Perhaps one day, they will continue this journey in their own way.
Until then, I will keep doing what I love — welcoming people from around the world, sharing my language and culture, and introducing them to the Bhutan I know and love.
So, when you come to Bhutan, I don't want you to be just another traveller.
I want you to arrive as a guest, discover Bhutan through a local's eyes, share a few moments of life with us, and leave as a friend.
Because for me, a journey to Bhutan should not simply give you photographs to take home. It should give you stories to remember, people to remember, and a feeling that stays with you long after you have left.
Welcome to Bhutan,
Welcome to my journey,
And perhaps, together, we can make it part of yours.
Happiness, shared through meaningful travel.
Our Mission
Our mission is to create meaningful, authentic and responsible journeys through Bhutan — journeys that connect travellers with our people, culture, nature and way of life.
We were founded with the belief that tourism can be more than an economic activity. It can be a way of sharing happiness, creating meaningful livelihoods, strengthening local communities and preserving what makes Bhutan unique.
Inspired by the principles of Gross National Happiness, we strive to ensure that every journey we create brings value not only to our guests, but also to the people and communities who make Bhutan what it is.
We are committed to promoting sustainable tourism by supporting local businesses and communities, respecting our environment, preserving our cultural heritage, and encouraging our guests to travel with awareness and respect.
To create happiness through meaningful travel while helping protect Bhutan for the generations to come.
Our Vision
Our vision is to become a trusted Bhutanese travel company known not simply for taking people to Bhutan, but for helping people truly experience Bhutan.
We envision a future where tourism creates a positive connection between travellers and local communities; where visitors leave with a deeper appreciation of Bhutan, while the people and places they encounter benefit from their journey.
We want to build a company that grows with purpose — not merely in size, but in the positive impact it creates.
- A company that our guests can trust.
- A company that our communities can benefit from.
- A company that respects the country we call home.
And, one day, a company that our daughters can look back on with pride and say:
“This is something our family built — not only for ourselves, but for Bhutan.”
- Come as a traveller.
- Discover Bhutan through our eyes.
- Connect with our people.
- Respect our way of life.
- Leave with happiness.
- And leave Bhutan a little better than you found it.
Ten values behind every journey.
Authenticity
We share Bhutan as it truly is — its people, traditions, culture, food and everyday life, beyond the usual tourist experience.
Immersion
We believe in going beyond sightseeing. We create opportunities for guests to connect deeply with local people, places, stories and traditions.
Sustainability
We travel responsibly, respecting Bhutan's environment, culture and communities while ensuring tourism benefits future generations.
Happiness
Inspired by the spirit of Gross National Happiness, we believe travel should create joy, meaningful connections and well-being for both guests and hosts.
Respect
We respect our guests, our communities, our culture, our traditions and the natural environment that makes Bhutan special.
Local Connection
We believe the heart of Bhutan is its people. We work closely with local families, guides, farmers, artisans and businesses to make every journey more personal.
Personalisation
No two travellers are the same. We listen to your interests, pace and expectations and create journeys that feel uniquely yours.
Care
From the first conversation until the moment you leave Bhutan, we take care of the details so you can travel with confidence, comfort and peace of mind.
Integrity
We believe in honest communication, transparent service and keeping our promises. Trust is the foundation of every relationship we build.
Legacy
We are building more than a travel business. We want to create something meaningful for our community, our country and future generations — something our children can be proud to carry forward.
